Rabun County Public Library Internet Acceptable Use
Policy

The Rabun County Library Board of Trustees passed the Internet Acceptable Use Policy implemented by the library staff.
A full text copy of the policy is available upon request at the library's circulation desk. The policy states in
brief:
- Users are required to read and sign agreement to comply with the Internet Acceptable Use Policy.
- The library's computers are provided in compliance with all state and federal regulations; they are
neither private nor secure. The user is responsible for materials accessed through the Internet.
The library does not endorse materials contained on the Internet and has no liability for its content.
- Library patrons must present a current library card and a picture ID
each time Internet access is requested.
- A minor (under age 18) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian while using the Internet.
- The staff member selects the station and performs the log on procedure. Users
may not share stations with others, and must report to the desk when the session has ended; the computer will be logged
off by a staff member. An Internet session is for one hour. Users may request additional
time (not to exceed two hours total time) by reporting to the desk. Additional time may be granted if stations
are available and at the discretion of the staff member in charge.
- The library's Internet computers are available for educational and informational
purposes, and to send and/or receive e-mail. Recreational activities such as games and chat rooms are prohibited.
- The library's computers may not be used for illegal activities, to access illegal materials,
to transmit or receive child pornography, or to access materials which by local community standards would be obscene.
- Users shall respect copyright laws and licensing agreements, and shall be responsible for any
fees incurred while using the Internet including the cost for printing.
- Users must have computer skills. Staff members may not assist except
for log-on and printing tasks. Users may not assist other users at neighboring computers, and shall avoid
viewing or attempting to view materials accessed by others.
- Users may not install or modify the computer software or attempt to change the computer setup
or hardware in any way.
- Users must exit the station promptly when requested to do so by library staff.
- Internet stations in the adult area of the library are intended for use by adults only. Adults
who access the Internet in the adult area may not be accompanied by children under the age of 12.
- It is the responsiblity of the patron to exit Internet sites that produce pop-up ads and announcements
that display materials that are inappropriate for the library.
Failure to comply with the Internet Acceptable Use Policy may result in temporary or permanent loss
of Internet privileges and/or possible prosecution.
The Rabun County Public Library welcomes visitors to use Internet stations for e-mail purposes for
a 15-minute session. A visitor must present a valid ID when requesting Internet access.
