Library Manager Jewel Suddeth
The library manager is responsible for all areas of operation for the library.
She oversees the library's day to day operation, is the library's chief finanacial officer, human resources manager, and public relations official. She reports to the regional
director, is ex-officio officer of Friends of the Library, and serves at the pleasure of the Library Board of Trustees.
Jewel
began her career at the Rabun County Library in 1979 (as Jewel Eller). She attended Truett-McConnell College (AA,),
Brenau College (BS), Brenau University (MBA)and Valdosta State Univesity (MLIS). She considers
her career at the Rabun County Library a dream job and a blessing from heaven.
Assistant Librarian Alice Welch
Alice began her career at
the library in 1996. When she joined the staff she had a business degree and more than 20 years work experience.
Her responsibilities include monitoring the circulation staff and interpreting libary policies for staff and patrons. She assists the library manager with the bestseller collection
and orders. She co-shares her position with Myra. The assistant librarian is the decision-maker in
the absence of the library manager. Patrons appreciate Alice's quiet
nature and calm spirit. Her coworkers appreciate her good heart.
Circulation Supervisor Jessica Smith
Jessica joined the library staff in 2000 as a circulation clerk. Recently
she was promoted to circulation supervisor. She is responsible for meeting the public at the main desk, overseeing
all circulation desk activities, monitoring the circulation staff to ensure the circulation desk is adequately staffed,
interpreting circulation policies, and resolving circulation issues for patrons. She reports circulation issues to the
assistant librarian or library manager. Jessica serves as assistant to the library manager. She assists with technical
issues, the library's website, and numerous tasks assigned by the library manager. Jessica is a graduate of North Georgia Technical College (AAT) and is currently
enrolled at Brenau University.
Children's Library Specialist
Kim Cannon
Kim joined the library staff in 2006 and is responsible for the children's library and
its programs and services. Kim reports to the library manager and works closely with her in planning programs, ordering materials,
and evaluating services for the children in Rabun County. Kim is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BS in
Family and Consumer Sciences. She worked in public relations and preschool education before joining the library staff.
She says her job as children's library specialist is the perfect combination of all the things she enjoys! She loves
to read and still remembers fondly the library of her youth in Carnesville, Georgia.
Kathy Knighton
Kathy joined the library staff in 2006 as a circulation
staff member. She brings many talents to the library and fills many responsibilities including moderating our 'Talk
About Books' discussion group and co-editing our library's newsletters. Recently Kathy has been assigned responsibility
for the library used book sale. Kathy is always pleasant, friendly, and a breath of freash air for our
patrons and her coworkers.
Carol Smith
Carol began working at the library as a part-time staff member in
2008 and moved to full time in May 2009. She is a member of our circulation team. Her special
assignments include monitoring the newspaper collections and managing the overdue notices to patrons. Her previous
work experience in public service made her an excellent fit for our library staff. She is enthusiastic, self-motivated,
and eager to assist our patrons.
Mary Ann Stonecypher
Mary Ann joined the library staff in 2008. She retired after
teaching 25 years in the Rabun County public school system. Mary Ann was valedictorian for her Rabun County High
School Class of '69. She earned a BSEE from Tift College and an MEE from North Georgia College. She is a member
of the library's circulation staff, and is responsible for the periodicals collection and the genealogy department.
MaryAnn's most noticeable traits are her soft voice, quiet spirit, and her easy manner.
